Despite their best efforts, the Miami Hurricanes were not able to ruin the Cinderella story for the Indiana Hoosiers in this year’s College Football Championship.
Yesterday (Jan. 19), the National Championship were played in the home state of the Hurricanes, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. The Hurricanes were ranked #10 in the college football playoffs. On the other side, Indiana has been the front runners all season, with star quarterback Fernando Mendoza is leading the team.
The Indiana Hoosier went 15-0, capping their undefeated season with a 27-21 National Championship win. Prior to last night’s historic victory, Indiana beat the Oregon Ducks 56-22.
The Hoosiers were led by Mendoza and his great offensive line and skill positions. On the defensive side of the ball, standout linebacker Aiden Fisher and his other defensive teammates consistently lit up opposing teams’ offense.
The Hurricanes were led by the right tackle Frances Maugioa, right guard Anez Cooper, center James Brockermeyer, left guard Matthew McCoy, and left tackle Markel Bell. Following right behind them was young phenom Malachi Toney and quarterback Carson Beck. On the defensive side, Rueben Bain Jr. game after game showed why he is one of the best on the field. In the upcoming NFL draft Bain Jr. will be highly sought after.
Junior Chase Bedrossian, from Cumberland, RI., didn’t have a favorite team.
“Honestly, this game could go either way,” Chase said prior to last night’s game. “Both teams are gritty and have the players to win.”
Nate Ellis was rooting for both teams and no matter the outcome, said he would have been happy with either team winning.
“The guys in the dorm will probably beating rooting for the Hoosiers and so will I, but I also would like to see the Hurricanes upset them,” Nate said. “Miami has been doubted all season, so that makes it cool to see them win.”
Senior Chris Oswitt said he wanted the Hoosiers to complete the Cinderella story.
“I want the Hoosiers to take it all the way,” he said. “This team has got what it takes and no one is stopping them, and everyone knows it,” Chris said.
