Nancy Guthrie, the kidnapped mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, remains missing, and millions of people are anxiously following the story as it rapidly develops.
On the night of Jan. 31, Guthrie was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona around 2:00 a.m. She was supposed to go to church the following morning, and when she did not show up, her family alerted authorities. Guthrie’s family has proposed to pay any ransom amount, while urging to public, in several videos, to report any information they receive.
Many are worried about Guthrie’s heath because she requires daily medication for high blood pressure along with a pacemaker for heart issues. Her family has posted many emotional videos desperate for proof of life from their mother. Brian Entin, NewsNation reporter, discovered a trail of blood leading from the front door, which was later confirmed to belong to Guthrie.
In the home video posted by Nancy’s family, Savanah Guthrie captions the video: “Our lovely mom. We will never give up on her. Thank you for your prayers and hope.”
On Feb. 10, new evidence came to light when the New York Times released a 58-second video from Guthrie’s front porch camera which shows an individual who was masked and armed. He used a plant from her walkway to tamper the Ring doorbell camera, and held a flashlight in his mouth with intentions of covering the lens.
Daryn Fox, a senior at the Williston Northampton School, thinks that unfortunately after so many weeks there might not be much hope left.
“I don’t think she is alive, and I think they are saying they are holding her for ransom,” Daryn said.
On the night of Feb. 10, a man identified as Carlos Palazuelos was questioned during a traffic stop in Rio Rico, Arizona, about 60 miles south of Tucson. Law enforcement officials told the man he was being detained in relation to the disappearance of Guthrie. He was questioned and then released from custody.
Palazuelos is trying to return to a normal life after being accused of taking Guthrie by officials.
According to Entertainment Weekly, law enforcement officials have discovered a glove near Guthrie’s home that does not belong to her or those in close contact with her. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and Fox10 News Phoenix reported on Feb. 16 that the the FBI is currently waiting results of the DNA test.
