Sunday, January 21, the New England Patriots played in their 7th consecutive AFC Championship Game and 14th in total against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tom Brady and the Patriots were able to come out with a comeback victory 24-20, advancing them to their second straight Super Bowl.

The Patriots will be facing off with the Philadelphia Eagles who took down the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday as well. It was not as close as the Patriots game, as they crushed the Vikings 38-7 to win the NFC Championship Game. The Patriots and Eagles will play on February 4, 2018 in Minnesota for Super Bowl LII.

If the Vikings had won, they would have been the first team to play in their home stadium for the Super Bowl. Only two teams played the Super Bowl that close to home was in 1984, when the San Francisco 49ers played in Super Bowl XIX in Palo Alto, California. The Los Angeles Rams also played close to a home game when they played Super Bowl XIV in the Rose Bowl.

Tom Brady will be playing in his eighth Super Bowl and looking to win his sixth Lombardi trophy.

Greg Iverson ’19, a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, said “I do not think I will be able to handle another Patriots Super Bowl victory. Eagles need to win this one.”

This will be the second time the Patriots and Eagles go head to head in the Super Bowl. In 2005, the Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX 24-21. In 2005, the Patriots were looking to win their second straight Super Bowl after defeating the Carolina Panthers in 2004 and third Super Bowl in four years.

Cam Mariani ’19 commented, “The Pats got this. We beat them in 2005, we’ll beat them this year too. We have Tom Brady on our team!”

Now, in 2018, the Patriots once again will be looking to win their second Super Bowl in a row and third Super Bowl in four years facing the Philadelphia Eagles on February 4, 2018.

After star Eagles quarterback, Carson Wentz, tore his ACL in a season-ending injury in week 13 of the regular season, no one thought the Eagles had a chance. Carson Wentz was headed towards a possible MVP trophy until tearing his ACL. Then, Nick Foles came to the rescue. Nick Foles has backed up Carson Wentz all year and now has continued the Eagles impressive season, showing he can be an elite quarterback in the NFL.

Foles threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns and passing 26 for 33.

“You know everyone was against us,” Foles said. “Coming out here and stick together and (we) come away with an amazing victory against a great team.” The Philadelphia Tribune reported.

The current odds for Super Bowl 52 favors the New England Patriots by 5.5 points and the over/under is set at 48 points.

Other bets that are possible are the color of the Gatorade poured on the winning team’s coach, the coin toss, and how long the national anthem takes.

Kickoff for Super Bowl LII will take place on February 4th, 2018 at 6:30pm in Minnesota.
