Mrs. DeMichiel Brings Years of Experience to College Counseling

Most people go from high school to college. Mrs. DeMichiel did the opposite.

A new addition to Williston, Mrs. DeMichiel works as a college counselor, but this isn’t her first time on campus. In fact, when she worked as a Senior Assistant Director and Coordinator of Campus Events at St. Lawrence University, in Canton, New York, Williston was one of the schools she travelled to.

“I applied for the job opening in the college counseling office because I was interested in joining ‘the other side of the desk,'” said Mrs. DeMichiel, who lives in Amherst with her husband.

Along with wanting to help high school students as they decide where to go next, Mrs. DeMichiel felt a move to Williston would allow her to “share my knowledge of the college process and develop more meaningful relationships with students through the process.”

Ms. DeMichiel said she’s comforted by the camaraderie she’s seen on campus, as well as its familiarity to her last employer.

“The first time I took a tour here during my interview, the whole time I kept thinking how much it reminded me of SLU,” she said. “From the way the campus is set up and the surrounding town, to the diverse student body, and the fact that everyone on campus will always smile and say hi.”
