Amid a growing number of rape accusations against the comedian, Bill Cosby resigned from the board of trustees at his alma mater, Philadelphia’s Temple University, on December 1st 2014. This step is only one of many results of the recent allegations against the star.

Although he has been accused of assault before, the publicity of these allegations increased greatly in November 2014 when just fewer than ten more women came forward with accusations. The most recent accuser as of December 2nd, Judy Huth, said Cosby assaulted her when she was only 15, a minor.

Bill Chappell reported for NPR on December 1 that, in his statement of resignation from Temple’s board, Cosby said, “I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students.”

The Cosby Show actor had a three-decade relationship with Temple University, and Cosby’s resignation is just another of the consequences of the allegations against him. TV Land pulled reruns of The Cosby Show off the air, Netflix set aside plans for a stand-up show by the comedian, and NBC cancelled plans for a sitcom with the actor in the same month of November.

Williston senior Emma Kaisla says of Cosby’s decision to resign, “I think it probably was right because there seems to be a mounting body of evidence he’s a sex offender and that’s not the type of person who should be on a school’s board of trustees, especially in light of all the recent national attention to on-campus sexual assault, so I think it would be really inappropriate for him to continue to be on the board.”

Cosby, who served for four years in the Navy, had the honorary title of Chief Petty Officer, granted to him in 2011, revoked on December 4th . As reported by Amy Argetsinger for The Washington Post on that day, the Navy’s statement on the decision said, “The Navy is taking this action because allegations against Mr. Cosby are very serious and are in conflict with the Navy’s core values of honor, courage and commitment.”

These recent reversals of fate for the actor could prove to be only the beginning of another long stint of publicity, this time for all the wrong reasons.
