Senioritis Take Two
Senior Spring has begun at the Williston Northampton School in the Pioneer Valley. As seniors endure their first senior spring, post-graduates are dealing with their second.
Seniors are notorious for their “senioritis,” a work-shy time period many seniors experience after they are accepted into college. Grades begin to slip and schoolwork begins to be neglected.
Post-graduates are students who come to prep school after their senior year for a multitude of redundant reasons ranging from academics to athletics. Student athletes want to broaden their exposure for college options.
While most post-grad students have already decided on their college plans, it is a tough task to stay focused in the present for the rest of their second senior year of high school.
Although it may be a laid-back time, students are doing their best to stay on top of their schoolwork and finish the year strong.
Many post-grads can remember the time of dwindling days their senior year as if they were yesterday.
Max Chipouras, a post-grad from Longmeadow, will be playing football at Trinity College in the fall. He is no stranger to the senior year spring.” I thought my senioritis was bad the first time around,” he says.
“It is currently at an all time high right now. Every day the struggle to stay on task gets worse and worse,” he adds.
Students admitted to college often feel as though a final trimester is pointless. Already accepted into college and ready for a fun-filled summer back home, it can seem insignificant.
John Aylward is a post-grad who will be playing college football at St. Anselm College next year. “It feels like we are going through a second round of senioritis,” he says. “It is tough to stay focused and motivated. I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
While it is a daily grind to stay on task and complete material on a day-to-day basis, it is very important that post-grads get the most out of their experience at Williston.
Prep school is a different world with an abundance of opportunities. PGs know that the experience they are gaining from Williston will stay with them for a lifetime.
Not only will a Williston experience broaden a student’s academic realm, but it will also tap into the social and moral aspects of their lives.
With the academic year almost over at Williston, senioritis is already prevalent. Hopefully there are not to many cases, and the post-grads don’t get it nearly as badly as the first time.
