WillyOne Begins Filming

While some seniors are enjoying a leisurely spring, senior Mackenzie Zehring has not lightened her workload. , For Mackenzie, the final trimester marks the beginning of filming for her contemporary art and culture project: WillyOne.

“WillyOne is essentially a spoof of America’s Got Talent and American Idol,” Zehring says. The original idea for her project was to have a “Battle of the Bands” type competition and later to create a satire film project. These combined transformed into WillyOne, which also had the benefit of showcasing people’s different talents at Williston. “It [WillyOne] is a place for people to showcase their art and music,” says Zehring.

WillyOne, she says, gets its name from the fact that “viewers are counting down from however many contestants there are until they reach the ‘WillyOne’,” an idea she received from Nell Heidinger.

WillyOne will feature three talent judges: Miranda Perroti, Colin Brown, and Sameer Jhaveri. Emmett O’Malley will host the show. Each episode will also feature Noam Saul and Brendan Hellweg as the parents of every contestant.

“There will probably be three to five contestants per episode,” Zehring says. “The judges will vote on who will continue on and for the last two to three contestants, the viewers will vote for the ‘WillyOne,” she says.

Contestants will be selected on a volunteer basis or by WillyOne’s talent scout, Sam Duffy.

“It’s going to be really fun, everyone should come try it out,” Zehring says.

Though the episodes will likely be too long to show in assembly in their entirety, Zehring hopes to show a trailer for each episode with a list of the featured contestants. “WillyOne will have its own YouTube channel and I’m hoping to display the episodes on a loop at Reed,” Zehring says.

Filming and production of WillyOne will begin very soon as Zehring and Duffy work to find contestants and talent to feature on the show.
