Captain Natalia Baum ’15 goes up for a lay-up  in the game against St. Marks.

On December 3rd, 2014, the first Wednesday back on campus after Thanksgiving Break, the Williston Girls Varsity Basketball team had their first home game of the season, facing off against St. Marks School.

The starting lineup consisted of the team’s three captains, Natalia Baum ‘15, Dina Dahdul ’15, and Mary McCarthy ’15, along with Grace Simpson ’15 and Sarah Marion ’17.

The team came out ready to play, immediately taking the lead over St. Marks early in the first half and finishing with a convincing lead of 26-9.

The team returned in the second half, settling comfortably into their game and maintaining a great lead over their opponents. With great defense, along with outstanding offense, Williston made the game a challenge for the St. Marks team.

Throughout the second half, Girls Varsity Basketball head coach, Jen Fulcher, saw an opportunity to allow all the girls court timem as they seemed to be maintaining a comfortable lead while keeping their energy high and taking control of the game.

Spectator Gabby Thomas ’15 says, “It was good to see the team in great form. They just seemed to be containing the St. Marks girls. It was nice that everyone got a chance to play. The team and Coach Fulcher all seemed to be in good spirits about the game.”

Player, Sam Madden ’17, says, “Playing with the team today made me so excited for the rest of the season.”

The team finished the game with positive attitudes and a very successful score of 43-15 over the St. Marks team, making it a great afternoon for the Wildcats in basketball.
