Suffolk Downs: Does It Need a Casino?

The city of Boston wants to build a casino at the horse racing track Suffolk Downs, right on the city line between Revere and Boston. This specific area is known for its horrible traffic problem, and the track already brings in loads of activity and crowds that area with cars. Most casinos around New England are built in remote areas, like Foxwoods in Mashantuckut, Connecticut, and Mohegan Sun in Montville, Connecticut.

The Suffolk Downs casino would be right in the middle of an urban area, and while it would surely have a lot of customers, how would it change the lives of residents in that area of Boston and Revere? Local businesses in the area might do better because more people will be around, but for people living on that street, getting to and from home will be a nightmare and something they will have to deal with every single day. The Boston Globe took a poll last week and found that 49% of voters in Boston were in favor of a casino, but the residents living in this area will vote for real on this issue soon.
