Las Vegas Governor Brian Sandoval signed a bill Monday October 17, which will allow for the building of a Las Vegas stadium that could be home to the Oakland Raiders, although NFL owners still need to approve the team’s move from Oakland before Sin City becomes a football town.

According to an MSN article published Tuesday, October 18, Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval and Raiders owner Mark Davis joined construction workers and Raiders fans for the ceremony at UNLV, whose football team would also use the 65,000-seat domed stadium.

With a move seeming very possible for the team, many fans are left upset that their team is potentially leaving them.

Brad Budman, a Williston graduate and Orange Country, California native is very upset about this potential move. “It is terrible for us as fans, but in reality it will be way better for the team,” he said. “Las Vegas is obviously a hot spot for travelers and they would drag in a lot of fans and people who will be gambling on the game. They will probably have a much higher attendance rating so this move will be good for the team.”

Shortly after he signed the bill, Governor Sandoval told MSN, ”Las Vegas is ready for this. Nevada is ready for this, the best brand on the planet is coming together with one of the best brands in professional sports. It is truly one of those situations where 1+1(equals)3.”

Xander Rodgers, a current junior at Williston and also a California native, is happy about this move for the Raiders.

“I think it will be good for them, they are a very good young team that will get a lot of support in Nevada,” he said.

There’s a downside, however, according to Rogers.

“It will be hard to say good bye to them if they really do leave. They were more than just a team, they helped start a movement back in the day. Seeing [rappers] Ice Cube, Eazy E, and Dr. Dre wearing all of the Raiders gear is what really made this team special to many people. They were used as a symbol that showed, ‘We are tough and we know it.’ That will be missed.”
