Girls Hockey vs. Polar Bears 2012
The Girls Varsity Hockey Team celebrates a win

by Rachel Rockwell ’16

Our Girls Varsity Hockey team here at Williston is a group of hardworking, energetic and fun young ladies. The leaders of our team are our seniors: Alex Starzyk, Kerri Reimund, Miranda Goh, Amanda Cronin and Laura Aptowitz. They always know how to pump up the team and put everyone in a good mood.

Two of our goals this season are to have a winning season and make it to the end of this year’s New England tournament. As a team we focus on winning one game at a time and being prepared to play any team. We have two great and supportive coaches as well. Ms. Talbot, who was a student at Williston, has been coaching here for nine years. We also have Ms. Davey, our assistant coach, who is also the Girls’ Varsity Soccer head coach. Ms. Talbot attended Providence College where she played hockey and Ms. Davey went to Connecticut College where she played both soccer and hockey.

Our team has big games this year on our schedule. One of them is home on January 23rd, against the Westminster School. Another big home game is on February 22nd, against the Winchendon School. Both of these games we would love to see a lot of fans, so come and support. On January 26th, we have a home game against the Hotchkiss School. This game is special because it is our annual “Pink at the Rink” game where we will be raising money for breast cancer. We will be wearing special “Pink at the Rink” jerseys, having a bake sale, and raffling off different items. Come and wear your pink!

I love being a Girls Varsity Hockey player for many reasons. Our team is a family and we support each other. We are always there for each other and I love knowing I can always go to someone for advice or a good laugh. We do everything as one unit, and are very close. We all love the sport of hockey and all help each other improve on and off the ice. Our season so far has been great and we hope to achieve all the goals we have set by the end of it.
