Ellie Moore, a new English teacher at Williston, is no stranger to the boarding school scene.

“I am a third generation boarding school teacher. It’s in my blood. I’ve gone into the family business as some might say. I love the tight-knit community a boarding school offers, and I enjoy engaging students in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. Teaching allows me to continue my passion for learning as I learn new things from my students every day,” says Moore. “I always loved school.”

Moore worked at the Rumsey Hall School in Washington, Connecticut for three years and Wolfeborro, The Summer Boarding School in Wolfeborro, New Hampshire, for six years.

Moore grew up in Groton, Massachusetts as a faculty kid at Lawrence Academy where both of her parents still work. Moore attended the school for four years. After this, she attended Bowdoin College where she majored in Sociology as well as Education studies and played soccer.

Now, Moore has found her place in a new community. “I don’t want to sound cliché, but the welcoming community is my favorite thing about Williston. It’s contagious the second you step on campus,” she said. Ellie came to Williston because she wanted to teach high school, and immediately fell in love with “the kind faculty and students, and the Pioneer valley.” She resides in Ford Hall and is very involved in campus life.

Ellie Wolfe, who is in Ms. Moore’s 10th grade English class, can clearly see her teacher’s level of experience. “Ms. Moore is incredibly nice and always provides helpful feedback when she grades our papers. Although she is new to Williston this year, it already feels like she has been here forever because of her comfort inside the classroom and out. She is also really funny in class and is a cool teacher to have in general,” says Ellie.

Outside of the classroom she works in the writing center, coaches JV girls soccer as well as Varsity Girls Lacrosse, and plays pickup ultimate Frisbee on Tuesday nights. She also enjoys other outdoor activities such as running, hiking, and biking. As an English teacher, she always finds some time to relax and read a good book.

Ryan Tyree, a fellow English teacher at Williston, is excited about the contributions Ms. Moore is making to the department. “Ms. Moore is a fantastic addition to the 3rd floor squad – she has the years of experience already under her belt that give her perspective and foundation, and the drive and talent to push her teaching to the next level with upper school students. In speaking with her you will quickly sense that she’s all in, and just as excited to learn as to pass along her own knowledge to our kids!” he said.

Ms. Moore has acclimated quickly and easily into Williston life. She has already made a big impression on her students and coworkers. The community is lucky to have her and all the experience that she brings.
