The Boston Celtics are one of four teams still in the NBA playoffs and have been on a roll, many think they could win it all this year.

The last time the Celtics won the NBA Finals was in the 2007-08 season when they had superstars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, or “Big 3.” Since then, the Celtics have made the playoffs all but one year. In 2009-10, the Celtics went to the NBA Finals for the second time since 1987, facing the Lakers yet again, this time losing in game 7. In 2012 Boston lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat, ending the reign of the Celtics “Big 3” success.

Since the 2014-15 season, the Celtics have been rebranding themselves with new superstars such as Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum. and Robert Williams. The chemistry of this new team has been building every year, and in 2017 and 2018, the Celtics went to the Eastern Conference Finals and lost to the Cavaliers.

In 2020, the Celtics made it to the Eastern Conference Finals again but got sent home by the Miami Heat; last year in 2021, the Celtics disappointingly lost in the first round to the Brooklyn Nets.

This season, the Celtics have came together to form one of the strongest teams in the NBA. Despite early season struggles, the Celtics were able to turn their season around with their new coach Ime Udoka and the pickup of Al Horford and Derrick White. After a dominant back end of the regular season, the Celtics started their revenge tour in the playoffs, facing the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the playoffs.

Zack Athy, Post-Graduate Celtics fan, is rooting for the Celtics to win it all.

“It started off a little rocky, but then after the all star break they picked it up and I think since that moment they’ve been the best team in the league, dominant on the defensive end and they’ve got superstars on offense,” Zack said.

After falling to the Nets 4 games to 1 in 2021, the Celtics clapped back this year, sweeping the powerhouse team 4-0 despite superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Next team on their revenge tour was the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks were last year’s NBA champions and had MVP Giannis Antetoukumpo leading their team. After seven hard fought games, the Celtics came out victorious.

Currently, the Celtics are in the midst of a back and forth series between the Miami Heat. The series is tied look; if the Celtics win it will be their first trip to the NBA Finals since 2010.

Alessandro Sternini, senior Miami Heat Fan, thinks the Heat have no chance of coming back.

“I thought from game one that the Celtics had a better players while the Heat have better team chemistry, unfortunately I think the Boston Celtics are going to win,” he said.
