A-Rod Breaks another Record

On January 11, arbitrator Frederic Horowitz issued a ruling banning baseball-star Alex Rodriguez from 162 games, the entire 2014 baseball season and postseason, for the alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs. Although shortened from an original 211 game ban, the suspension is still the longest drug-related suspension ever given to a MLB player.

Senior Liz Calderone remarks, “It’s upsetting that A-Rod could [use performance-enhancing drugs] when so many athletes and fans looked up to him. Although the suspension length is unequaled, I think it’s appropriate because it sends the right message to other athletes considering using steroids.”

Alex Rodriguez, however, clearly feels differently. Lawyers for Mr. Rodriguez filed a suit in U.S. District Court on January 13 claiming that Mr. Horowitz was biased in his ruling and requesting that the Court throw out Mr. Rodriguez’s suspension. Also named in the lawsuit are the MLB and the players’ union.
