Tandem Bagels in Easthampton

Most of Tandem Bagels’ customers think of it as a quaint café and student study spot with good bagels. However, the small eatery located on the Williston Campus has just added something new to the menu—alcohol.

Earlier this summer Tandem, located on the Manhan Rail Trail biking route, was approved for a one night only “tap takeover” by New City Brewery in Easthampton. The night went well, so Tandem will be offering new services and now has the ability to host evening events with alcohol.

Sharon Greenwood, co-owner of Tandem Bagels thinks “it will just allow us to expand a bit with our business,” about the new services.

Tandem Bagels is located in a building owned by the school. Students will not be allowed in the business during the extended hours according to Ms. Greenwood. Beer and wine will not be served during the usual hours from 6:00am to 3:00pm.

In a recent interview, Ms. Noble, Dean of Students said about Tandem, “I think the students like it and the faculty like it. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone not liking Tandem.”

Ms. Noble was also quick to point out that Easthampton Diner served alcohol and Williston students eat there.

Noble does not think underage drinking will be a problem.

“I think the Zawacki’s and the Greenwood’s have very close ties to the school, and obviously are very against underage drinking, so I do not think that it will be of much concern at all.”

Zoe Okaisabor, a sophomore at Williston, does not think Williston students should be allowed inside Tandem when it is serving alcohol.

“That may cause trouble and it would just be a lot of unnecessary stress for the school and the business,” Okaisabor said.

In contrast to Okaisabor, Williston junior David Janoschek thinks Williston students should be allowed in the café during the hours it serves alcohol.

“It’s not like we’re going to be getting alcohol anyways,” he said.

Maddie Elsea, a sophomore at the school agrees.

“If it is serving alcohol alongside food then yes, Williston students should be allowed to go to Tandem,” Elsea said. “If it was just like alcohol and no food then maybe not so much.”
