Williston played a tough match in the White Out game last Saturday (Sept. 13)
The White Out game is one of the biggest annual football game hosted at Sawyer Field. It is Williston’s first home opener game, and invites everyone in the Williston community to dress in white to support their team. The student section also adds a huge part to the game and culture at Williston. This year the Wildcats faced off against Tabor Academy at 6:00pm.
Football’s White Out tradition started in 2009 after the school’s football team won the NEPSAC championship in 2008, a game against their rival, Northfield Mount Hermon. The game is something the students look forward to every year.
The Willistonian caught up with Brookers Connor, a senior day student from Rye, N.H., before Saturday’s game. He felt strongly about the game and the team’s performance.
“Our team has been waiting for this game, and we are going to go out there and perform,” said Brooks, who plays running back on the team.
Nate Ellis, a senior running back from Worcester, Mass., felt enthusiastic about the game and was ready to compete.
“I am so excited about the game,” he said. “The team has been preparing and putting tremendous work in since last spring, and I am ready to go out there.”
This year’s White Out football game was all over social media. A Sept. 2 post on recruitingtboard’s Instagram reads “Game of the YEAR?” The post shows PG Drew Alsup, a wide receiver on the team. The post currently, as of Sept. 13, has 290 responses.
Nina Coffee, a senior day student from Old Lyme, Conn., was excited for the upcoming game and believed the game would be better than previous years here at Williston.
“I feel like it is more broadcasted and what I’ve heard from other people I feel like it will be a great game,” she said.
The Williston football team took a tough loss against Tabor. The final score of the game was 37-6.
Hayden Hutner, a senior boarder, shared his view of the game from a fan’s perspective.
“Even though we lost it was still fun to go to the game and watch the teams play,” Hayden said. “I think that it was a good match up and that Tabor has a really good team.”
