Welcome to The Willistonian!

Welcome to the website of The Willistonian! You may be used to seeing our articles as a part of the Williston Blog network, but we as a paper have decided to branch out and start our own independent destination for all your journalistic needs. Expect articles on campus news, commentary on local and global events, reviews of music and the arts, and plenty of up-to-the-hour news of your classmates’ athletic achievements. This site will, in short, provide a window into the mind of the well-informed Williston student.

After several years of constant refinement, we, the Editors-In-Chief, present to you the premiere version of our online presence. Featuring the latest in WordPress-based design from our business affiliate, School Newspapers Online, this definitive version of The Willistonian is complete with a refined, professional aesthetic, intuitive  pages for articles and videos, easy access to sports scores, a chance for you to contribute through polling software, and, of course, the very latest in news from the Head of School’s office to the front lines in US foreign affairs.

Back in 2010, when The Willistonian broke into the online world, it was but a shadow of its present self, a mere template-based blog in the vast world of 21st-century news media. After a bout with WordPress’ free version, our paperless paper came to reside under Williston Blogs, Williston’s greater online production under the guiding hands of our Communications Office. However, this year, The Willistonian expanded to its full-bodied form, in no small part due to the contributions of News Media, a brand-new class that comprises the regular writing and editorial staff of The Willistonian, saturating our online branch with bi-weekly content and fresh, inspired stories on a plethora of subjects.

You may be thinking that this alone makes year one-hundred-thirty-two a banner year for our venerable paper, and we agree, but at The Willistonian, we don’t improve by half-measures or on just one aspect of content creation. At The Willistonian, we set out to make each year a leap forward, and that is why we are also proud to announce that for the first time in many, many years, the paper will be moving to a bimonthly schedule for print publication in tandem with our online medium.

Yes, you will still be able to enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting on the red library couch, reading your friends’, your classmates’, or perhaps your own articles, becoming more informed all-the-while. This opportunity is made possible through the school’s generosity in purchasing the best in Adobe design software as well as contributions from truly generous alumni. We now have the same tools that newspapers such as The New York Times and The Washington Post use for their print publications.

Both the print and online publications of The Willistonian are painstakingly crafted by your peers to ensure that your contributions can be accessed and enjoyed to the greatest extent possible. So what can you do? Beyond subscribing to our site, reading regularly, and spreading the good word, contact either Brendan Hellweg or Dylan Kenseth about writing for us! We value your voice, and we would be thrilled to publish it in our expanding newspaper. Thanks for your support.
