A lot of students have noticed the change in-front of the study hall with the new flag that changes every week.
The Flag tells the students the color week it is, if it is green week then the flag is green, if its blue week then the flag is blue for the week. With the new phone ban, being able to see what week it is in such a important place on campus helps a lot.
In the past that flag was never there, it was in front of reed and students would always wonder whether it was blue, or green week. However, the plan is to find out whether students have noticed this flag this year or they have no clue about it and just think of it as a decoration. The flag used to be up in Reed hall but no students ever payed attention to it.
David Koritkoski (Coach K), the Dean of Students, hopes it would allow students more resources to be able to know what color week it is.
He says, “We have put up those flags for about the last decade, it has been traditionally in front of reed. But we moved it to dining hall so that people pay more attention to it, simply a reminder whether what week it is.”
The flag is up there to be able to make a small impact on students’ days so that they won’t need to look to see what week it is. It is a quick and convenient method to sort out your day.
Barrett Clark, a boarder, feels that the flag is something that can make an improvement in class, but he never has used it, he said, “I didn’t notice the flag but now that you mention it, I can see how it can help some students remember what classes they have and what things they need to get done that week.”
Many people aren’t super familiar with the flag but once they get told about it, they like the idea of the flag and see the impact it can make on campus.
Patrick Loftus, an English teacher at Williston feels that the flag can make a small impact on students. He says, “I didn’t realize what that flag was for, but I think it’s a great way to remind students of the color week it is.”
