Spring Sports Highlights

The crack of the bat, the swish of the net, and the slam of the racket are some of the new sounds echoing through campus now that spring sports have commenced. With Mr. Conroy’s help, we compiled a list of highlights from this year’s spring sports season.
• The always mighty girls’ lacrosse team, having won 4 straight New England Championships, will be dominant again this year. Senior captain Bridget Instrum, an exceptional player, will be playing her last season as a Wildcat before heading off to Ohio State to join their lacrosse team.
• For the first time, Conca Fitness will be working with the softball, baseball, and track teams. Specific strength and conditioning routines will be taught to each team and will make for a stronger, well-trained group.
• This year’s track and field team consists of what Mr. Conroy calls “potentially the finest group of sprinters we have had in a number of years.”  This group includes returners Gabby Thomas ’15 and Dan Rowe ‘12, a New England champion and a runner up respectively. They are joined by promising sprinters James Ward ‘12, Donquale Williams ‘12, Sebastian Rivera ‘13, and Natalia Ovando ’15. This year’s track and field season is destined to be one for the record books.
• Alumnae will be bringing helpful insight to our tennis teams this year. Charlotte Wilinski ‘07, a former top Williston tennis player, will be using her skill and experience to coach the boys’ team this spring; and Neile Golding ‘04, another former Williston athlete, will be coaching the girls. Both teams will benefit from learning from coaches who once played on these courts.                                                            • Andrew Syfu and Chris Dietrich will be putting their heads together as co-coaches of the boys varsity lacrosse team.  The experience of Chris Dietrich, who coached this team from 2001-2004, will be very helpful to Andrew Syfu’s knowledge of the game.
     • Junior Jack Shumway, this year’s   varsity boys’ lacrosse captain, along with senior Alex Doudnikoff, will make his return from an ACL injury suffered at a game early in last year’s season. Hopefully, his return will mark the start of another high-scoring season for Jack and a successful year for the team.
