The 2025-2026 NBA season could be one for the ages.
There are many entertaining storylines entering this new season. The reigning MVP and finals MVP Shai-Gilgeous Alexander is entering his prime. Young stars like San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards, and number one draft pick, Dallas’s Cooper Flagg are knocking on the door of greatness. Meanwhile, older stars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry’s careers are coming to a close.
The 2024-2025 was certainly an entertaining one, with reigning champions Oklahoma City Thunder winning it all over the Indiana Pacers in a seven-game series, the first one since 2016.
Jack Carter, a basketball fan and day student from Hadley Mass., is worried for his favorite team.
“I honestly am starting to think that [Boston Celtics] are screwed this year,” he said. “Jayson Tatum’s out for the season, we lost [Al] Horford and a lot of our core, so I don’t think we are gonna be in a situation like we were last year.”
The Boston Celtics for the most part have been one of the more dominant teams of the 2020 decade, winning the championship in 2024 and making it to the finals in 2022. The team also at least made the second round of the playoffs each year so far. They are led by all-star players Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, two of the best wings in the NBA. However the team lost Tatum to an Achilles tear in a playoff match against the New York Knicks, and he isn’t projected to come back anytime soon.
PJ Gasasu, a junior from Boston, Mass., is looking out for Lebron’s final year on the court.
” Really for me I just wanna see LeBron’s final days and the conclusion his career comes to, because I think how he ends it will play a big part in his overall legacy,” he said
LeBron James is entering his 23rd and final season in the NBA.
“Other than that I have high expectations for Ja Morant,” PJ added. “He’s been a star in the league but I think its time for him to take another step forward towards stardom and reach that M.V.P level that he definitely can play at.”
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is one of the most polarizing players of the 2020s. When he’s on the court he wows fans with his superhuman athleticism and bounce. Several off the court antics, however, from getting into fights and waving his gun on Instagram have kept him from playing.
Reece Berrien, a five-year day student from Easthampton Mass., has already picked a few MVP candidates for the upcoming season.
“I think the obvious two candidates have to be Shai and Nikola Jokic, but I also think that Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama have a great chance to win it,” Reece said
The most valuable player award is given to the player most valuable to their team during that respective season. OKC thunder Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and Denver Nuggets Nikola Jokic were the past two winners of the coveted award. However, the Timberwolves’s Anthony Edwards has a really great chance of winning the award. Currently, ESPN has Wembanyama winning the award after his historic start to the season.
