A popular Spring drink from Tandem Bagel has taken campus by storm.
Walking around campus, it seems a lavender lemonade is in everybody’s hand. Is the colorful drink worth the hype?
Tandem Bagel, known as Tandem, at 9 Railroad Street just behind the Schoolhouse, has a massive Williston following, so it’s not surprise a new drink would make a splash. Especially because its competitor, the Strawberry Açaí Refresher from Starbucks, isn’t within campus boundaries, meaning students would have to find a friend with a car or use a delivery service.
Brenna Ziter, a junior boarding student from St. George, VT., says her favorite item from Tandem is an Iced chia but that hasn’t stopped her from getting a lavender lemonade.
“I like it because it’s a good twist on regular lemonade but still isn’t too sweet or sugary,” she said
Brenna believes lavender lemonade is popular because it is refreshing as the days get warmer.
“After a cold winter with warm drinks … a refreshing drink feels very spring/summer,” she said.
Daryn Fox, a junior boarder from Bermuda, loves the iced vanilla chai and the lavender lemonade from Tandem, both of which she calls “very refreshing,” although she admits she only goes to Tandem “3-4 times a month.”
Daryn has seen the spike in students drinking lavender lemonade in recent weeks.
“The lavender lemonade is definitely becoming more popular now that it is back is because it is finally getting warmer and people want a sweet refreshing drink without having to pay DoorDash prices or going all the way to Starbucks,” she said.
The lavender lemonade hits close to home for Daryn.
“Back home there is a really good lemonade place that also has a lavender lemonade so I already knew how it tasted,” she said. “It is very refreshing and a different flavor; people always associate lavender with room scents and calming and I think I’m calmer after I have a lavender lemonade.”
Ashley Barnes, a senior boarder from Bristol, Conn., also understands the popularity of the drink.
“It is seasonal and it is the perfect thing when you want a drink but not a coffee or a smoothie,” she said.
