Jason Tirrell, referred to as JT on campus, is a beloved member of the Williston community. And now, he could be Easthampton’s next mayor.
A Williston Alum from the class of 1990, JT is known for his dedication and organization to help Williston’s student athletes. Though he works the cage to makes athletes afternoon smoother by having all our need and equipment ready, he is so much more than just an equipment manager.
On JT’s website https://www.jtforeasthampton.com/ he believes in “No labels, just leadership,” introducing himself as being born and raised in Easthampton, graduating from Williston before earning a degree in criminal justice and sociology from Castleton University.
His roots run deep, and his passion for his hometown shines through everything he does. For the past 13 years, JT has been a fixture at Williston, where he’s earned the nickname “King of the Cage” for keeping the school’s athletic programs running smoothly with his organizational skills and dedication. Whether he’s outfitting teams or cheering on student-athletes, JT’s commitment to the next generation is unmistakable.”
He is an important member of the Easthampton community and not just the Williston community who always has a lot to bring to the table.
In Williston, he loves the kids and enjoys meeting them all year round, building meaning full relationships with many. “That’s definitely my favorite part of the job,” he said.
According to an article on Williston.com written in 2023 by Dennis Crommet, he has over 60 athletics teams to manage equipment for 60 plus athletics teams, and somehow, he still manages to have every single team’s jerseys and equipment ready for competition.
He has “no desire to do anything above mayor,” all he wants is to “better serve the city I grew up in,” he said.
As he is also the head of the Easthampton little league, he would have to step down if he won the election. “I would still be involved but could not be the president of the league. I would step down from a leadership role and volunteer for the program,” he said.
Not only this, JT holds many leadership positions within Easthampton and the Williston community, currently a City Council at Large. “A City council does checks and balance for the mayor,” he said.
In the future, he strives to do more for seniors and veterans of Easthampton. “I would like to give our veterans and seniors more support locally. Give them the help and support they need,” JT said.
