At their annual class dinner held on May 9, the junior class heard speeches by students running for senior class council. Each candidate was asked to present a two-minute address regarding his or her ideas and qualifications for the positions on student council.

Maisy Glick ran uncontested for the position of class secretary.

Erin An, Ben Cuca, Noah Jackson, and Caleb Parker ran for class treasurer.

Gabby Thomas, Marie Innarelli, and Milo Cowles ran for class representative.

Kenzie Possee and Terry O’Brien ran for the vice-presidency.

After the candidates for the other class offices gave their speeches Loren Po, Alec Bickerstaff, Katie Murray, Emmett O’Malley, and Emily Grussing outlined their reasons for running for senior class president.

Po, who has been the president of the class of 2015 for two years, placed an emphasis on his experience as class president saying, “I know this job… If elected, I’m not going to be learning the ropes.” Po further promised that he would continue to be responsive to students concerns.

Second, Bickerstaff outlined several proposals, including advocating changing the penalty for dress-code violations from a decorum unit to a regular unit, and described himself as “one of the most hardworking and dedicated people you will ever meet.”

Murray focused on students’ potential and responsibility as “half-adults.” Murray said, “I want each and every one of you to have a voice in what Williston will be.” She further provided a written campaign platform outlining her goals, which include holding several Student Council meetings open to the student body.

Next, O’Malley voiced his desire to “establish a community of care.” O’Malley said to the class that, should he be elected president, “I will listen to you, I will toil for you, and I will advocate for you,” promising to always take the advice of students and faculty into account.

Last, Emily Grussing spoke of her deep connection to and love for the Williston community, saying, “I live, breath, and am completely immersed in Williston.” She concluded by declaring her pride at “being part of such a phenomenal class.”

Following the speeches, Mrs. Choo, the junior class dean, commented that “The speeches were really impressive; the rising senior class is chock full of leaders.”

Elections will be held on Friday, May 16th to determine next year’s senior class officers.
