The urgent need for dresses is on the rise with upcoming events for seniors.
With the end of school year coming up seniors are in a rush to find dresses for the many events planned. Between prom, senior dinner, baccalaureate, and commencement the need for dresses is practically a requirement.
The need to buy dresses for these events has been on people radars since freshman year. These events take place every single year, specifically around the end of the year in springtime. The next dress-up event is senior dinner on Friday May 16, followed by prom on Sunday 18. The seniors then have baccalaureate on May 23, which is a dinner with all seniors, faculty, and family. Then the final dress needed is for commencement on May 24, where all seniors are required to wear a white dress.
Mina Sugiyama, a four-year senior boarder finds the process of finding dresses very stressful because it is hard to find dresses not similar to everyone else. She has two out of the four dresses she needs for all the events.
“I already feel overwhelmed that I have four formal events in one week” she said. “It is hard to find a cute dress but not match with anyone because everyone goes through similar websites like Meshki, For Love and Lemons, and Bec and Bridge.”
For example, a senior dress from For Love and Lemons costs around $200 and a senior dinner dress is around the same cost. A graduation dress from Meshki costs around $145. A prom dress from Bec and Bridge costs around $300. Altogether, many people are paying around $900 for all these dresses.
Nora Curtis, a four-year senior boarder, finds the whole experience stressful as well because it is hard to find dresses. She is most excited for the prom.
“I’m most excited for prom because I’m excited to spend the night with all my friends and have fun. I’m also excited for the lock in that happens after prom” she said.
Lock in is when all the seniors after prom spend the night in the gym together. There are a bunch of bouncy houses, games, and food to occupy them throughout the night.
Davian McDonald, a three-year senior boarder, is most excited for graduation and has a different view on how many tuxes needed for these events.
“I only have one tux for all four events, and it should only take about 30 minutes to get ready,” he said.
