A Chillin’ New Club
James Hatch ’16 (Right) and Grillin’ n Chillin’ founder Andrew Lui ’15 enjoy grilling some hot dogs on October 11th at the first meeting.
A new club has taken Williston by storm and has stirred up lots of talk around campus. This new club is rumored to rival the Political Awareness Club and Key Club with its overall member count. The club: Grillin’ n Chillin’.
Early this year while hanging out in the Stu Bop, Andrew Lui ’15 proposed the club idea to his friends and co-founders, Matt Cullen ’15, Rj Guardia ’16 and Alex Fabbri ’15. Lui and Fabbri then talked with Mr. Spearing, the Director of Student Activities, and filled out the necessary paperwork in order for the club to become a reality.
In order for a club to pass regulations, there must be a faculty advisor. Lui looked to Blayne Lapan, the Williston Strength and Conditioning coach.
“Blayne, being the guy he is, accepted our offer,” comments Lui in excitement.
Lui adds, “We set it up in about fifteen minutes, showing how quick we can set up a club at Williston and how accepting they [the Williston administration] are.”
Grillin’ n’ Chillin’ had a very successful night at the Activities Fair on Thursday, September 11th, where many people signed up. Lui states, “Ninety-four members signed up which is pretty successful. I believe we are in the top three [most populous clubs] with Political Awareness and Tour Guides.”
In terms of the male to female ratio, Lui states, “We got a good mix of about 55 percent male to 45 percent female. I’m definitely trying to get everyone involved.”
The club’s first meeting happened on October 11th, just hours before Williston took on Cheshire in football.
What exactly happens when the club grills n’ chills? Lui says, “Just show up and Blayne and I and the other founders will be grilling. Come and hang out.”
One member of Grillin’ n’ Chillin’, Chris Dumont ’15, says he signed up for the club because he wants to enjoy some good food and good times. Maddy Jerolman ’15 says, “I signed up because I want to have fun, enjoy some food and create new friendships.”
Grillin’ n’ Chillin’ looks like the club to join if you want to have some fun and hang out with some friends. If you want to learn more or join the club, email Andrew Lui at alui@williston.com.
