Williston Students and The 2016 Presidential Election

Hillary Clinton is losing patience with some people who are “feeling the Bern.”

On Thursday March 31st, at a rally in Purchase, New York, Clinton was asked by Eva Resnick-Day, an activist for Greenpeace and 350 Action, if her campaign will “reject fossil fuel money.”  CNN reports that representatives of the organizations also asked her the question in December, at an Iowa town hall, and again in February, at a town hall in Dover, New Hampshire.

“I do not have – I have money from people who work for fossil fuel companies,” Clinton responded. “I’m so sick – I’m so sick of the Sanders’ campaign lying about me. I’m sick of it.”

Clinton aides told CNN that she has recently become more frustrated with protesters because many come to be disruptive rather than to listen to her agenda.

Nick Day, a first year junior here at Williston Northampton School, happens to be a big supporter of Bernie Sanders.  When he was asked about why he chose to support Sanders, he simply answered, “Feel the Bern baby.”

When Day was asked about Sanders campaign lying about Clinton, he simply responded, “Bernie is telling the truth. It is Hilary that is lying about the money from fossil fuel companies.”

Although most of the students at Williston probably do not know who they are going to be voting for like Nick Day, several others do. Matt Folger, Henry Miller and Brendan White, all politically active students at Williston, have all made up their minds and are sticking to them as well.

When asked about why they supported their chosen candidates, they all had a similar response. Brendan White, a current junior at Williston said, “I believe that what Cruz is preaching to the country will actually have a very positive effect on us as a nation.”

Matt Folger a current post-graduate said, “Although this will be my first time voting, I believe that who I am voting for, which is Donald Trump, will make a difference.”
